Summary:
The New York University School of Medicine's Department of Population Health (DPH) is a dynamic environment of excellence, innovation and growth with faculty across a wide range of disciplines including behavioral and social sciences, epidemiology, health services research, evaluation, biostatistics, and medical ethics with a particular focus on health equity. The Health Evaluation and Analytics Lab (HEAL) is a unique research resource that contains New York Medicaid and other state administrative data to support studies of health and healthcare. HEAL is a joint venture between DPH and the NYU Wagner School of Public Service. The mission of HEAL is to conduct research and evaluations that assist in the administration of the New York Medicaid program and contribute to national scholarship on health and healthcare. The vision is to become a national resource for improving health and well-being of vulnerable communities and individuals. The lab is comprised of four faculty members and six analysts with strong programming and statistical skills for working with large healthcare data. The team works on many different studies of health and healthcare across diverse topics (e.g., specific health conditions, disparities in care). Some of the studies are construed and directed within the lab and others are guided by outside scientific partners. The team is transitioning into a new centralized data environment that will provide advanced technological capabilities and offer opportunities for creating new workflows to improve productivity and quality of research. Responsibilities:
Conduct research and evaluations:
Exercise a high degree of creativity, foresight, and mature judgment in planning, organizing, and guiding scientific research projects and activities of outstanding novelty and/or importance. Coordinate with partners--community based organizations, healthcare providers, government representatives--on development and conduct of research. Develop study proposals for submission to funders. Make significant contributions to scientific papers and serve a resource/ author/ co-author for reports and presentations. Initiate, interpret, organize, execute, and coordinate research assignments critical to HEAL's mission. Formulate and conduct research on problems of considerable scope and complexity. Explore subject area and define scope and selection of problems for investigation through conceptually related studies or series of projects of lesser scope. Make decisions and recommendations that have a major impact on extensive scientific research activities. Develop new ideas that promote current research. Exercise a high degree of creativity, foresight, and mature judgment in planning, organizing, and guiding extensive scientific research programs and activities of outstanding novelty and/or importance. Supervise HEAL Analysts:
Provide technical guidance and direction on research protocols and statistical methods used by analysts. Manage analysts' project timelines and productivity. Build and supervise quality assurance protocols for data management and analyses. Supervise review process for all analytical output that is shared with outside partners. Minimum
Qualifications:
PhD in health services research, public health, health policy, or a related field Minimum of 2 years in research, data management and statistical analyses Preferred
Qualifications:
Minimum 2-3 years of experience in people management Outstanding verbal and written communication skills Strong time-management and prioritization skills; ability to work well under pressure and in a team Experience working with key secondary data sources Skilled in large-scale data manipulation Highly proficient with the following programs:
SAS and/or STATA; ArcGIS or QGIS Proficient in programming languages, including R, Python and SQL Familiarity with computing models for big data, specifically Hadoop Experience developing data protection protocols, statistical analysis plans Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.
Salary Range:
$80K -- $100K
Minimum Qualification
