Summary:
This is a senior leadership role that will lead the provision, management andsupport of data in the context of clinical research at NYU Langone Health (NYULH).The postholder will assume the leadership of an innovative and successfulorganization-DataCore-thatutilizesstate-of-the-arttechnologiesandinformaticstechniques to meet the clinical and translational research needs of a prestigiousinstitution.This includes electronic data capture (EDC) systems, registries, datalakes and any special applications or informatics products that facilitate theoperation of NYULH's clinical research projects. The postholder will serve as the strategic liaison between Medical Center Information Technology (MCIT) and the NYULH clinical research community. In particular, the position will coordinate data management activities across multiple data hubs within the institution, such as Population Health and the Cancer Center, with DataCore providing centralized leadership, standards and tools across multiple clinical domains. The position will be responsible for all aspects of data management in the context of clinical research related projects conducted at, or on behalf of, NYULH. Collaboration with multiple informatics groups, research administration management and staff, MCIT staff, investigators and clinical/network staff on many aspects of clinical research data management needs, will be required. The postholder, via an existing and growing team, will oversee the data management of multiple simultaneous studies from original concept through final closeout. This will include defining scope and objectives, developing detailed work plans, schedules, estimates, resource plans, and status reports to users and management. The postholder will work closely with other senior research and IT staff and faculty to lead a world-class resource in clinical research data management. This is an exciting opportunity to operationalize the informatics vision of NYU Langone Health, with a scope that encompasses all human subjects research. The possibility exists to make this position a faculty position, should an appropriately qualified individual be selected. POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES Planning and Policy:
Setting Goals and Establishing Priorities Works on a day-to-day basis with stakeholders to define goals, articulate priorities and set standards, to identify opportunities for implementing major as well as subsidiary goals, to direct their realization, and to overcome impediments to their achievement. Remains constantly aware of the status of Core activities in relation to goals and to performance benchmarks in all areas of center operations; identifies problems or inadequacies, proposes and implements solutions. Works directly to oversee goals and activities related to the support of data management in clinical and translational research. On a daily basis seeks ways to expand capabilities of the Core, to improve service to faculty investigators and to take fullest advantage of the available resources of the institution. Anticipates timelines, analyzes requirements to accomplish major and minor projects, organizes and delegates tasks to staff, follows through to completion. Scientific Subproject Administration and Academic Training Activities Facilitates faculty participation through personal and written interaction and by responsiveness to faculty needs. Oversees the guidance of faculty investigators through the clinical research data management process and advises on guidelines, protocols, procedures, forms, formats, budgets, and regulatory requirements. Pre-screens all protocol submissions; anticipates and whenever possible resolves in advance concerns of faculty reviewers and advisory committees. Maintains working familiarity with key clinical and translational studies and related activities at NYULMC, including organizing, tracking and maintaining data management pertaining to current studies. Organizes the activities of one or more scientific advisory committees that will guide the priorities and activities of the Core; contributes to the nomination of potential committee members; sets meeting agendas; maintains detailed official proceedings; participates in review of subproject submissions; keeps committee members abreast of guidelines, policies, and Core activities. Finance Oversees the Core's budget including justification, documentation, calculation, and projections. Has primary responsibility for allocation of financial resources and for establishing and maintaining fiscal controls in accordance with funding agency regulations, sound accounting principles and budgetary limitations. Guides faculty investigators in the development of data management plans; reviews accuracy and appropriateness of plans and informs advisory committee of same; assists faculty in data management plan preparation for external grant applications. Has authority to purchase supplies, services and equipment; conducts detailed reviews, adjusts to cost, as necessary. Prepares, analyses and presents regular fiscal, statistical and narrative reports as necessary. Data Management Principles Maintains mastery of principles of good clinical research data management, guidelines and best practices and relevant regulations, interprets and applies these in the day-to-day conduct of Core business. Maintains awareness of directions and trends and fosters development of new directions in translational research and data warehousing. Personnel Management Devises recruitment strategies; screens and interviews candidates for managerial, professional, technical and clerical openings; interviews references, makes hiring recommendations. Monitors job classifications to assure compensation equity; writes and/or updates position descriptions for center personnel so as to retain staff and maintain competitive recruiting status. Performs periodic assessments of staffing patterns and recommends changes as needed; informs faculty, other supervisors and staff of personnel policies; provides input to principal investigators for evaluations of managerial and technical staff. Hires, trains, assign tasks to, and complete performance evaluations for data management, technical and administrative personnel. Additional Position Responsibilities Serves as leader and liaison for clinical and translational researchers to information technology and vice versa Oversees data management for multiple research studies, projects, including hiring and managing staff and consultants, and managing the budget for the Core Translates user needs and manages expectations within the NYU Research Community, including bidirectional communication of requirements and current/future capabilities Delivers requirements for clinical research data management systems to MCIT; contributes to the strategic plan for IT support of the NYULH research mission Delivers regular reporting on project status to leadership and the MCIT Research Steering Committee Escalates issues and roadblocks as appropriate; recommends and takes action to direct the analysis and solutions of problems Serves as advocate for clinical researchers within NYULH; serves as liaison between clinical researchers, the Office of Science and Research and Medical Center Information Technology MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 8-10 years or more of experience in research center management activities and/or research-related activities. Master's degree required in a medical and/or technology-related field Doctoral degree in relevant field is highly desirable Track record of successful grant applications is highly desirable An in-depth understanding of data collection, data flow management, data quality, dataset extraction and data standards Strong background in clinical research Experience in informatics and data management Experience/knowledge of research centers including grants, subcontracts, industry partnerships, alternative funding streams, technology transfer, and intellectual property rights, along with research faculty/staff interaction and Previous research center/research-based business administration experience including business development, team leadership, strategic planning, center/business start up, data management, budgeting, human capital management, project management, outstanding writing skills, and excellent managerial and executive capabilities. Previous experience in project conception, organization, oversight, and research Additional Qualifications The position calls for strong and visionary leadership capabilities. The person must be decisive and innovative with very good communication skills and strong hands-on experience of conflict. Experience serving as an expert source of information, with a collaborative and flexible style. Ability to work under pressure, demonstrated capacity to work in partnership with diverse groups and political savvy are also essential skills for this Excellent understanding of clinical research, including experience within the context of academic medicine Excellent understanding of best practices in clinical research data management Demonstrated understanding of and experience in clinical trials management Demonstrated executive project management skills and relevant experience with strong experience in the clinical research space Facility working within a highly distributed organization; matrix management Ability to plan tasks, communicate and manage timeframes, define success criteria, validate success, and escalate when necessary Superior analytic, oral and written communication skills; ability to develop and cogently express an argument; strong negotiating skills; excellent interpersonal skills; creative approach to problem-solving and the achievement of short and long term Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.
Salary Range:
$200K -- $250K
