The role of Senior Food Editor makes best-in-market editorial food content for our digital food media brand, The Spruce Eats. This digitally-savvy food content expert with a passion for all things food (recipes, explainers, roundups, and articles), eager to drive the ongoing evolution and growth of one of the biggest food content sites on the web. The Editor will work with The Spruce Eats team to create and improve the editorial content and user experience and ultimately to increase traffic, audience engagement, and revenue. About Your Contributions:
Work with Editors and Editorial Director to help execute editorial strategy to increase audience and drive user engagement. Manage a team of editors responsible for assigning, editing, and producing content, ensuring our best practices are met. Assign and edit content from freelance writers, as needed. Manage new editorial creation budget. Track competitive landscape, and analyze trends to identify opportunities within the space. Work with Visual Asset Team in the production of new photos and illustrations. Source potential new writers, schedule phone interviews, review writing samples, and ultimately make go/no-go recommendations for candidates. Maintain and enforce editorial and visual style for the brand. Represent the brand as an editor as needed for press, events, and partnerships. Occasionally write and produce new content in-house, including new product/collection announcements and super shareable/clicky round-ups. Curate and promote our best content across site landing pages, via email newsletters, and through our social channels. Brainstorm ideas for our ongoing video series and optionally host 1-2 videos each month. Work with team on ad-hoc projects with the goal of improving content quality. Support GM & Editorial Director in differentiating our verticals from others in the marketplace. Work with social, newsletter, video, sales & marketing to integrate and identify custom packages and campaigns for direct premium sales. About You:
6 to 8 years experience developing, editing and curating digital food content for web, email, and social environments against business goals. Prior experience managing a team Operating experience with content management systems and web analytics tools and experience using data and revenue goals to inform and develop digital strategies. Proactive, flexible team player with a sense of humor and entrepreneurial energy, able to roll with the punches and take ownership in a fluid and fast-moving environment. Passionate about all things cooking and eating to share your knowledge with the world. Consistently up to date with industry trends; able to identify topics of interest to a wide audience. Experience in the application of SEO best practices. Detail oriented and deadline focused with best-in-industry editing and proofing skills. Strong copywriter, capable of writing engaging, lively headlines and blurbs. Undergraduate degree, preferably in journalism or communications a major plus. Deep understanding of culinary techniques, cuisines, ingredients and trends. Hands-on culinary experience a plus.
Salary Range:
$80K -- $100K
Minimum Qualification
Editorial & Content ManagementEstimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
