Production Manager

Job Summary The Production Manager, Front List handles all aspects of print production for assigned new book and non-book projects. The Production Manager is primarily responsible for sourcing, manufacturing, and quality control of UNSQ's Front List. The Production Manager partners with outside vendors as well as various departments within Union Square & Co.:
including Art & Design, Editorial, Managing Ed, Special Sales, and Inventory-ensuring customer satisfaction from creative kickoff to final delivery and distribution. Requires substantial daily interaction with both international and domestic manufacturing vendors. What You Do o Handle all aspects of Print Production, including estimating, scheduling, buying prepress services & color correcting, manufacturing, communicating & negotiating prices with vendors. o Work with internal teams and external suppliers to build effective relationships and deliver quality product according to manufacturing specifications on schedule and within the approved budget. o Negotiate, review, and secure print estimates for competitive pricing and profitability (margin). o Consult with Editorial and Design departments on creative concept exploration and throughout the book development process. o Oversee color correcting process; understands color management and color correcting best practices. o Route proofs and dummies; update schedules in Title Management; and serve as key point person to effectively communicate changes to internal teams and external vendors. o Maintain production schedules and create Purchase Orders in Title Management; maintain estimated cost records in Vista. o Follow established procedures aligned with measuring departmental and vendor KPIs. o Engage in cost-savings initiatives to advance departmental goals and objectives. o Review and approve Production invoices, reconciling against approved program expenses. o Handles other special projects as assigned. Position Requirements:
o Exceptional project manager who can prioritize effectively and adapt to changing needs. o Proven ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment and meet deadlines on consistent basis. o Experience with 4/c color management a MUST. o Thorough understanding of printing and book making processes and materials. o Exceptional negotiation skills. o Excellent written and verbal communication skills. o Experience with safety testing and understanding of International Regulatory Product Compliance a plus. o Experience with Title Management & Vista a plus. Knowedge & Experience o 4 year college degree or equivalent work experience. o Minimum 5 - 7 years prior Production experience within book publishing. o Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
Salary Range:
$80K -- $100K
