Apply today for immediate consideration below! What you should know about our Associate General Counsel role - A senior managing attorney to serve as a member of Flagstar Bank's Legal Department as Associate General Counsel.
The Associate General Counsel will be responsible for the management of the legal affairs of Flagstar Bank's Private & Commercial Business, including oversight over the provision of legal support and advice provided by subordinate attorneys.
In this role, your primary responsibilities will include:
Manages legal transactional work, including the review, negotiation and drafting of various documentation, including those related to deposit banking, lending, and general corporate matters (ability to be specialized in role:

, focused solely on legal advice and transactional work for lending).
Accountable for the completion of assigned deliverables for certain groups/departments.
Uses advanced understanding and experience to make complex judgments on largest matters.
Oversees legal advice and counsel on large, complex, or important lines of business, transactions, and/or relationships.
Uses broad knowledge across multiple areas and business lines to provide strategic legal advice to Bank's Board, executive/senior management groups, as well as other directors/managers.
Supervises lawyers in the department on transactions, advisory, and strategic assignments.
Assists with development of department lawyers and staff.
Helps identify short-and long-term department staffing needs and development.
Manages enterprise-level relationships with external law firms.
Engages external counsel as necessary and assists with oversight of active engagements.
Independent approval authority of legal invoices/expenses incurred on behalf of the Bank and its subsidiaries.
Develops legal policies/procedures for Bank and its subsdiaries.
Manages firm's standard legal documentation and procedures.
Maintains relationships with internal colleagues in other departments/disciplines to proactively address issues.
To be successful, your background should match these
Qualifications:
Minimum of 8-15 years of relevant legal experience practicing at a law firm and/or in-house legal department at a commercial bank or other equivalent financial services company.
Must be licensed to practice law in the State of New York Comprehensive understanding of the overall firm and competitive environment.
Knowledge of the legal and regulatory requirements for commercial banks, including relevant US and NY banking laws.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Excellent drafting skills.
Ability to exercise good judgment and decision-making skills under pressure.
Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and multitask in a fast-paced environment.
Hard working, organized, and able to work well as a member of a team.
Compensation:
Flagstar Bank offers a base salary in this position with a range of $200,000-$250,000, dependent on qualifications and experience.
