In addition to operations and maintenance, the following types of experience are also qualifying:
law enforcement or security, firefighting, environmental education, environmental stewardship, natural resource management, forest management, wildlife management or preservation, or historic preservation or interpretation; OR One year of military service in any of the military branches; OR An Associate's or higher-level degree, or 60 credit hours of college level coursework; OR Completion of an appropriate two-year technical/trades school program or two years' experience as a trade's assistant under the supervision of a skilled tradesperson.
Duties Description Under the supervision of higher-level personnel, the selected candidate has a broad range of responsibilities, which includes supporting park programs and various maintenance or operations tasks.
This position works collaboratively with park management, staff, and our regional educators in a variety of capacities.
The incumbent will:
Interact with the public, answer visitor questions, and resolves patron complaints.
Prepare seasonal payrolls if assigned, and other administrative tasks as needed.
Assist in coordinating and executing recreation events conducted at the park.
Engaging in horticultural activities, such as mowing, planting, weeding and operating handheld equipment.
Performing maintenance activities, including refuse removal, cleaning structures, painting, maintaining equipment; Performing a variety of housekeeping tasks including, but not limited to, restroom cleaning, mopping, trash removal, power washing.
Performing grounds landscaping and building maintenance, using green practices and a variety of tools.
Using motor driven equipment and hand tools in the performance of assigned tasks.
Preparing written reports in response to specific assignments, perform inventory, including purchasing and tracking and maintenance of equipment.
Supervising lower level permanent and seasonal staff Assisting in emergency situations by applying emergency procedures and practices by directing staff and working with patrons to minimize potential problems.
Performing a variety of administrative duties by assisting with inventories and collection of data for work orders, timesheets, complex registrations, front desk coverage and other assignments as needed.
Working closely with lifeguards, volunteers, community members, and vendors to assure NYS Parks' mission is always met.
Removing snow, ice or cleaning flooded areas.
Conduct inspections of assigned areas for safety hazards and correct problems where possible and make requests for appropriate skilled trades assistance when needed.
Engaging in outreach to schools, community groups, and the public through email, social media, exhibit displays, and tabling events.
Other duties as assigned.
