Manager, MSNBC Media Relations

Role Purpose: Manager, MSNBC, will support day-to-day media relations for Dayside news programming and select evening and primetime shows, drive press strategy for high-profile network talent, and work closely with colleagues on the MSNBC PR team on breaking news, special reports, and digital initiatives. The ideal candidate will be a motivated self-starter and excellent problem solver with the ability to multitask on internal communications and multiplatform PR opportunities for the network. The candidate should also have excellent writing skills, a strong understanding of the political landscape and a grasp of issues management in order to lead varied projects including writing press releases; pitching stories and interviews; and generating briefing notes, clip reports, and Q&As.
Job Duties:
Promote show content, digital initiatives, and editorial achievements
Play a key role in building talent profiles and positioning the brands
Support day-to-day media relations for dayside news programming and select evening and primetime shows
Serve as lead PR liaison for Dayside news programming
Foster strong contacts with print, digital, national, and trade media
Pitch ideas and create promotional opportunities for talent and programs
Coordinate media interviews, photo shoots, and publicity opportunities
Generate press materials, including press releases, bios, talking points, tweets, and pitch letters
Possess a strong understanding of and experience with social media
Monitor competitive environment and industry trends
Coordinate with executives, producers, NBC Standards and Legal on approval of written materialsBasic
Qualifications:
Minimum 5 years relevant media relations and communications experience
Experience in news and journalism a strong plus
Strong news judgment and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced newsroom environment
Knowledge of Nielsen Media Research
Bachelor's degree in Journalism, English, Communications, or equivalent
