As a vital member for the surgical team, the Intraoperative Neuro-monitoring I (Trainee) (IONM Trainee) develops competency in and performs the basics of intraoperative neuro-monitoring testing and associated interventions under direct or remote supervision. Within three months of the date of hire the IOMN Trainee will acquire skills and knowledge necessary to perform intraoperative monitoring for simpler cases that place the nervous system at risk including spinal cord (e.g. lumbar laminectomy, anterior cervical discectomy, posterior lumbar inter-body fusion) and peripheral nerves.
What You'll Do:
Understand of the important details of each case (including the patient's condition, type of surgery, major risk to the patient) and selecting appropriate monitoring techniques
Participate in the planning of intraoperative monitoring modalities appropriate to the surgical procedure; preparing the patients for and acquiring neurophysiological signals; completing post-operative reports and billing forms
Engage in timely discussions with the surgeons and the anesthesiologists regarding any and all issues related to neuro-monitoring
Acquire expertise in the elicitation of somatosensory and motor-evoked potentials and recording of spontaneous and triggered EMG
The IONM I (Trainee) should be able to obtain CNIM certificate within eighteen months of the date of hire.
What You'll Bring:
Associate degree from an accredited institution; Bachelor's preferred in science field (Bioscience or Biomedical engineering, etc)
Must be proficient in the use of common Windows-based computer programs, including Microsoft Word and Excel
Strong administrative and organizational skills
Strong verbal and written communication skills in English
