Investigator 1 (Supervising Investigator)

The Office of the NYS Gaming Inspector General was created pursuant to the Upstate New York Gaming Economic Development Act of 2013 to promote transparency and accountability as well as to ensure honesty and integrity as it relates to gaming activities and the Commission. The Office is responsible for investigating allegations of corruption, criminal activity, fraud, conflicts of interests and abuse within the Commission. The Office is now seeking an experienced investigator for a position located in New York City. This individual will conduct in-depth investigations and analysis of criminal acts, corruption, conflicts of interest, and abuse within the jurisdiction of the Office of the Gaming Inspector General. The Investigator, under direction, and with wide latitude for independent action and decision, will be responsible for the following duties, including, but not limited to, supervising other investigators as well as managing own caseload, maintaining case records, analyzing affected programs/systems and relevant statutes, regulations and policies, conducting interviews, performing surveillances, preparing written reports, making recommendations as appropriate, testifying at hearing and court proceedings, and working as liaison with other law enforcement agencies. The successful candidate will be able to effectively use technology to assist with information gathering and data analysis and assessments and possess excellent analytical, communication and organization skills.

Salary Range:
From $0 to $89000 Annually
Minimum Qualification

Qualifications:
o Ten (10) or more years of investigative experience in a major police department or law enforcement agency, five (5) years of which included supervisory experience. o Experience in conducting confidential, sensitive and internal investigations, including program fraud and abuse, contracts and procurements, white collar crime and other complex fraud. o Interviewing and interrogation experience in complex criminal and administrative investigations. o Experience in surveillance techniques, and in the use of technical equipment. o Excellent interpersonal and report writing skills. o Proficiency in word processing and spread sheet programs. o Proficiency with law enforcement and other investigatory search engines and websites. o Some travel required.Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
