Major duties include but are not limited to; Incumbent is responsible for the work operation of a small unit of painters and a Housekeeping Aid (Wall Washer). Receives work orders and Instructions from General Foreman and passes this on to employees. Responsible for setting the work pace and demonstrating proper work methods, checks work while in progress and when completed assures that all employees have sufficient work. Employee receives, technical and administrative supervision from the General Foreman who discusses work assignments and suggests priorities. Incumbent ls expected to perform functions Independently unless unusual circumstances arise work is reviewed for compliance with procedures, quantity and quality of completed work. May work indoors and outside in a variety of weather conditions Is exposed to dirt, spray, and fumes and may suffer cuts, and bruises in the performance of duties. Meets the needs of customers while supporting the Medical Center and Service missions. Consistently communicates and treats customers (patients, visitors, volunteers, and all Medical Center staff) in a courteous, tactful, and respectful manner. Provides the customer with consistent information according to established policies and procedures. Handles conflict and problems in dealing with the customer constructively and appropriately. Protects printed and electronic files containing sensitive data in accordance with the provisions of the Privacy Act of 1974 and other applicable laws, federal regulations, VA statutes and policy, and VHS&RA policy. Protects the data from unauthorized release or from loss, alteration, or unauthorized deletion. Follows applicable regulations and instructions regarding access to computerized files, release of access codes, etc., as set out in the computer access agreement that the employee signs. Ability to communicate in spoken and written English with patients and other health care personnel with sufficient fluency to satisfactorily carry out assigned responsibilities, in accordance with Public Law 95-201. Incumbent must recognize and correct unsafe or unhealthful conditions/practices. Report observed conditions/practices to senior supervisory personnel. Report work-related injuries or illnesses to senior supervisory personnel. Employee prepares and coats surfaces from ladders, scaffolds, and platforms. and where the surfaces to be painted are in cramped and hard-to-reach places This requires much standing. stooping. bending. kneeling. climbing and working in tiring and sometimes uncomfortable positions. May occasionally be required to handle equipment up to 40 pounds, however, usual physical exertion is in the area of ten pounds. Utilizes safe practices with equipment, including scrubbers, burnishers, vacuums, trash compactor, cardboard baler, as well as hand tools and other varied equipment. Properly utilizes all issued PPE, safety shoes, goggles/eye protection respirator/dust mask goggles when required. Duties Involve the painting of all Interior and exterior areas of buildings. Employee ls required to apply coating materials by any of the accepted methods such as brush, roller and spray gun. Incumbent prepares surfaces by; Treating metal surfaces and objects by immersion in caustic or pickling compounds, cutting out plaster and sheet rock cracks and defects, Patching and renewing surfaces, Size and prime all types of surfaces, (wood. plaster. sheet rock. masonry. etc) Employee is responsible for hanging of wallpaper and decorative murals. marbling and graining, stalling muslin on ceiling and walls shading with stains, shellac. varnish or lacquer. matching and blending to produce a uniform finished surface, and the repair and refinishing of wood surfaces by filling In and shaping by the use of resins. plaster, and patching compounds. Must have the ability to read and apply directions to the mixture. use and application of various kinds of coating materials, solvents and pre coating agents. for example. paint, varnish, paint removers and compounds. Must have skill in the use of tools and equipment such as brushes, rollers, spray guns, trowels and screeds and the erection of scaffolds. Basic computer knowledge. Employee prepares Coating materials by mixing, blending and tinting of paints. stains. Assures that safety rules are observed keeps General Foreman aware of work issues. Work Schedule:
