Student Trainee

At the GS-05 level, you will:
- Assist in the review of factual differences of financial statements in support of the accounting and financial management program; - Assist with accounting and review activities involving the review of accounting records and recording factual differences that may involve such matters as the type and kind of information needed on balance sheets, the consistency of various ledgers with original documents, and the portrayal of data in chart, table, or graph format; - Assist with the review of outstanding obligations; unobligated balances, expenditures, travel, suspense items, interest payments, and make recommendations for corrective action to provide experience in using the specific procedures of automated systems to find, review, or change accounting data in transaction files, ledgers, accounts, summary reports, and financial statements; - Assist in the preparation of accounting entries and enters them into the accounting system. At the GS-07, you will:
- Assist with the planning and development of financial statements, cost analyses, estimates, and/or studies in support of the accounting and financial management program; - Analyze portions of current or projected resources to evaluate effectiveness in meeting established goals and objectives; - Tracks ongoing operations and solves problems that arise; studies existing reports, accounts, or instructions to streamline operations or provide reports withgreater detail; prepares specific instructions for ongoing operations; documents accounting system features designed by higher level accountants; and advises managers or others when transactions differ from norms on nature and volume; - Assists with accounting and review activities involving the analysis of the accounting records. One or more positions may be filled. In addition to the eligibility requirements for the Pathways Internship Program, Pathways Interns qualify for an initial appointment based on their educational achievements as described below:
To qualify for the GS-05 level, you need to have completed four academic years of post-high school leading to a bachelor's degree or equivalent degree.To qualify for the GS-07 level, you need to have completed one full academic year of graduate level education; or a bachelor's degree with superior academic achievement (Superior Academic Achievement Definition). Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
