Chief of Emergency Department (Physician)
Duties will be performed in both the Emergency Department and Ambulatory Care settings. The Chief of the ED is responsible for the administrative coordination of all emergency and ambulatory care activities at this NYHHCS. He/she is also responsible for:
- Strategic planning for the establishment of care models that promote wellness and health maintenance, clinical excellence, predictability, patient satisfaction and cost efficiency and effectiveness - Advancing the objectives of continuously improving patient care and promoting research and medical education - Effective management in periods of crisis or change - Achieving defined and measurable objectives within the ED - Collaborating and partnering with other health care providers within the Medical Center and across campuses - Recruitment of clinical staff - Development of new programs of excellence and strengthening those that already exist FUNCTIONS OR SCOPE OF ASSIGNED DUTIES Oversees:
- Admissions to ER observation unit for diagnosis/treatment - Admissions to inpatient services - Discharges of stable patients from ER after ensuring follow-up care - Referrals of patients to outpatient clinic for further treatment Work Schedule:
Monday - Friday, 7:
30am - 4pm, subject to change based on the needs of the facility. Financial Disclosure Report:

United States Citizenship:
Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. Proficiency in spoken and written English. Physical requirements outlined below. Board Certification required for this position. Reference:

Moderate lifting (15-44 lbs), moderate carrying (15-44 lbs), straight pulling (.5 hr), pushing (.5 hr), reaching above shoulder, use of fingers, both hands required, walking (2.5 hrs), standing (5 hrs), repeated bending, ability to distinguish basic colors, hearing (aid permitted). Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
