Maintenance Mechanic Supervisor

The Maintenance Mechanic Supervisor (HVAC)works on installing, testing, trouble-shooting, repairing, and performing preventive maintenance on HVAC equipment and components used for heating, cooling, ventilating, humidifying and dehumidifying, and filtering. The equipment he is responsible for includes centrifugal chillers, cooling towers, air handlers, steam supply systems, motors, variable-frequency drives, and a central computer control system. The Supervisor plans for the maintenance, repair, modification, preventive maintenance, and operation of the major HVAC systems. Organizes and directs all assigned resources, determines maintenance requirements, forecasts material and manpower requirements in order to assure continuous and reliable operation of HVAC systems throughout the NY Campus. Plans for the modification and installation of new equipment as needed to keep the HVAC systems in dependable and efficient operation at all times. Has a scheduled replacement program of all equipment, including key pumps, motors, controls, etc. Plans all funding requirements for HVAC needs. Justifies budget requests and controls all shops expenditures. Responsible for organizing subordinates and supervises them to properly perform productive, efficient work in their assigned tasks. Evaluates maintenance needs in terms of available manpower and resources to determine work priorities and assignments. Inspects work areas to insure compliance with proper procedures, regulations, and safety practices. Utilizes employee skills to accomplish work in the most efficient manner. Prepares a weekly work schedule, which provides for systematic and prioritized maintenance of systems and equipment. Provides constant follow-up of all ongoing work and projects. Work Schedule:

Prolonged physical effort is not routine. Occasionally lifts objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Works in hard-to-reach places. Standing, walking, bending, and crouching is required. Frequently works on ladders. Working Conditions:
Part of the day is spent at a desk. Also works on portions of the HVAC system that are in (non airconditioned) mechanical rooms inside the building and many air handlers are on roofs. Is sometimes subjected to temperature extremes or is exposed to changes in temperature while working outside. Noise level is often high, sometimes to the point of requiring ear plugs. Is subject to cuts, burns, electrical shock, and bruises. Other protective equipment such as goggles, masks, and gloves may be needed periodically. To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
Experience:
A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume.
