Student Trainee (Equal Opportunity Specialist)
The following are the duties of this position at the GS-9. If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties, and will receive training to help you grow in this position. -Intake/assess, investigate, conciliate, and/or resolve complaints involving allegation of discrimination related to housing.-Interview complainants and witnesses to obtain evidence relevant to the allegation of discrimination.-Contact respondents to serve complaints, explains respondent's rights and obligations under the law and conducts interviews to obtain evidence.-Conciliate fair housing cases, draft conciliation agreements, and review conciliation agreements prior to execution. Experience:
For the GS-9, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-7 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes:
Participating in mediation or negotiations and making recommendations for solutions; AND Using geographic concepts, tools, and systems to analyze resource conditions and trends, and make recommendations to resolve resource management issues; AND Conducting legal research to apply Fair Housing, Title VII, or other Civil Rights laws to related issues; AND Using software programs to track projects and provide status' to help recipients carry out Fair Housing program objectives. OR Education:
You may substitute education for specialized experience as follows:
Completion of 2 academic years of graduate level education, or a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree.OR Combination:
You may qualify by a combination of experience and education. Combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements and may be computed using the total qualifying experience as a percentage of the experience required and adding the percentage of the required education completed; the total percentages must equal at least 100 percent to qualify.For the GS-7, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-5 grade level in the Federal service. Completion of 1 full academic year of graduate level education; or Eligibility under the Superior Academic Achievement Provision and completion of a bachelor's degree that is demonstrated through class standing (upper 1/3 of class), grade point average (2.95/4.0 overall or 3.5/4.0 in major), or election to membership in a qualifying national scholastic honor society.OR Combination:
You may qualify by a combination of experience and education. Combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements and may be computed using the total qualifying experience as a percentage of the experience required and adding the percentage of the required education completed; the total percentages must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. You may qualify by a combination of experience and education.
