Our programming approach is one that promotes and supports the realization of the rights of children and young people.
Currently, our programs include formal and non-formal education and life skills training for children and youth ages 0-16, with a focus on psychosocial well-being and cognitive development.
IRC reaches over a million children annually with education and child protection programs in 20 countries around the world.
Sitting within IRC's Crisis Response, Recovery & Development (CRRD) Unit, the Education Technical Unit defines the vision and strategic priorities for all of IRC's education programs.
The team provides evidence-based and contextually relevant technical support to programs, with the goal of ensuring they are technically sound and achieving meaningful outcomes.
Early Childhood Development-which is based within IRC's Education Technical Unit but with strong linkages to Child Protection, Health and Nutrition-is a core organizational priority at the IRC.
As a part of the IRC's ECD portfolio, the organization is working closely with Sesame Workshop, the creators of Sesame Street, to implement a life-changing, multi-year intervention to bring vital early learning and nurturing care to children and families affected by conflict and crisis in the Middle East with a specific focus on the ongoing civil war in Syria as well as the Rohingya crisis in Bangladesh.

Major ResponsibilitiesThis short-term opportunity as Ahlan Simsim Program Associate is a remote position with expectation of working within Eastern Time hours (with once a week early-morning meetings to accommodate time zone differences with our Amman office) and reporting to the Ahlan Simsim Senior Project Specialist in New York (at IRC Headquarters).
The Associate will be able to participate as an intern in the IRC internship summer cohort.
The Associate will provide programmatic support to the Ahlan Simsim team, working closely with NY-based Senior Project Specialist but also liaising with the larger team, the majority of whom are based in Middle East regional offices.
Work activities may include the following:
In close collaboration with supervisor, development of project update presentations and context updates Support in the managing of internal and external communications and advocacy materials, including updates to internal program websites and development of stock presentation material on programmatic overview, objectives, and metrics Development and editing of case studies and success stories, management of communications materials bank Final management systems project support; improving systems of knowledge management and knowledge coordination Review and edit grant supporting documents and reports Conduct research, write literature reviews, and create presentations on various topics related to ECD and country contexts Support preparation for execution of meetings including scheduling and taking/distributing minutes Based on interest and skills, may include some work on budget summariesJob Requirements Education:
In pursuit of Associates or Bachelor's degree; Bachelor's degree preferredDemonstrated Skills and Competencies:
Demonstrated interest in humanitarian and development contexts and refugees and/or Middle East region Cultural competency, ability and enthusiasm to work with people from different linguist or cultural backgrounds, demonstrates strong collaborative people skills Ability to work at least 25 hours/week Excellent oral and written communication skills; strong copy editor Basic graphic design skills a plus Computer skills:
Should be proficient in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint; experience with Microsoft Teams or similar team coordination/communication technology (such as Zoom) a plus Basic fluency with budgets and financial records a plus Candidates with some Arabic language knowledge a plus Must be available for 20 hours/week for the duration of the program, from June 15, 2021 to August 27, 2021; compensation is $20/hr.
Experience:
International experience a plus 1 year of work experience required, which could include a combination of professional internships, work study, etc.
Experience working or collaborating across diverse cultural contexts; some experience managing projects (including student projects) preferredLanguage Skills:

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
