Rug Size 48" x 32" Color: Cream/Muted Gray/Brown - Cool in the summer, Warm in the winter. Felt wool production is a traditional craft of Kyrgyzstan. Since the country is very mountainous and has many tribal nomadic communities, they endure very cold weather conditions. They live in yurts made with felt wool and decorative art and rugs known as shyrdaks.The color dyeing, designing and stitching are all hand done. Delightful, high quality end products. They have perfected the production of felt wool over centuries. The process of procuring the wool, cleaning and preparing the art and inlaid patchwork is labor intensive and time consuming. Depending on the size and colors used, a shyrdak can take 3-6 weeks to complete. Please note that due to the nature of the wool crafting of these rugs, the sizes may not measure exactly as stated. There may be very slight variations in the end product. Mostly though the sizes are accurate and we do our best to represent the item to match the photos. This is an effort on our part to bring you unique items and support the various Women's handicraft groups developing their handicraft cottage industries in Central Asia.
