Considered the rarest 356 Variant, the 356 Continental was exclusively offered in 1955 by NY based Porsche dealership Max Hoffman.
Mr.
Hoffman convinced Porsche HQ that American buyers wanted to buy a car with a name, not just a model number.
Thus, the 356 Continental was born.
Only 85 Continental Cabriolets were ever built, and today only 21 are known to remain.
This 356 Continental has been recognized by the 356 Continental Registry, further cementing its status as one of the rarest 356s ever assembled.
In 1956 Lincoln Motor Co.
sued Porsche over their usage of the Continental name, as they intended to introduce a vehicle using that model name, and the rest is history.
This beautiful 356 was originally restored in the 1990s by a renowned Italian based Collector-Restorer, with photos of that restoration process in hand.
Later on its life, remaining in excellent condition, this 356 was sold to California based Stanley Gold, who elevated the restoration to an even higher level, with his in-house 356 Specialty shop Shamrock racing.
Invoices, Records, and communications with Cooper Classics chronicle and document Mr.
Golds ownership and enjoyment of this 356.
A mostly complete ownership history as documented by us comes included.
Recently, we re-acquired this 356 from a long-time client of Cooper Classic.
Today, this Continental Cabriolet remains in fantastic condition, courtesy of a refreshing of the restoration we performed in March 2023.
The car runs and drives excellently and presently does not need anything but a new loving owner.
The engine, which is a 1955 correct year and type engine (#35786), runs excellently and is in great tune.
The brakes stop the car very well.
The transmission shifts smoothly.
The original Telefunken Radio powers on and plays AM stations.
The black exterior paint presents as new, and the original green color leather interior is in like new condition.
The dashboard is also beautifully painted in green all the way up to the windshield edge.
The car has absolutely no rust and the underside is as nice as the exterior.
The COA and Kardex are in hand.
The original Turbine Wheels have new Coker Classic Radial White Walls mounted.
